Day hike: Pão de Açúcar, Boat Tour & Caiçara Lunch

Hike to Pão de Açúcar Peak for panoramic views of Mamanguá, Brazil’s only tropical fjord. Then take a boat ride to the head of the fjord and enjoy a home-cooked Caiçara lunch prepared by local families. Guide, round-trip boat and lunch are included.

Discover Saco do Mamanguá, the only tropical fjord in Brazil.

Often compared to the famous Nordic fjords, Mamanguá is one of the most striking landscapes on the Costa Verde. This full-day experience combines a short, steep hike, a scenic boat ride and an authentic Caiçara lunch, all in a single day from Paraty.

The hike
Climb Pão de Açúcar Peak (465 m) on a steep trail of about 1.5 km round trip, which takes around 2 hours. At the top, you are rewarded with panoramic views of the fjord and the Atlantic Ocean.

The boat ride
After the hike, board a boat and explore deeper into Mamanguá, all the way to the head of the fjord. There you get a close look at local life and Caiçara culture.

The Caiçara lunch
Enjoy a traditional meal prepared by local residents, which supports community-based tourism in the region.

  • Starter: salad and rice fritter
  • Main course: rice, beans, mashed potatoes, mussel farofa, banana farofa and breaded fish fillet
  • Dessert: bolinho de chuva (sweet fried dough) with coffee

Drinks are not included. Vegetarian and vegan options are available on request.

Why book this experience

  • Hike, boat ride and local food in one day
  • A unique landscape and a rare ecosystem
  • Direct contact with nature and Caiçara culture
  • Small groups with a licensed guide
