6-Day hike from Paraty: Remote Beaches, Lighthouse & Caiçara Homestays

Trek 6 days through Brazil’s Juatinga Ecological Reserve near Paraty. Visit the Juatinga Lighthouse, Pico do Miranda and Sumaca Beach, swim in waterfalls and stay with local Caiçara families. All meals, boat transfers and a licensed guide are included.

Explore the most remote and spectacular corners of the Juatinga Reserve.

This 6-day, 5-night trek goes deep into the Juatinga Ecological Reserve near Paraty. You will walk through Atlantic Forest, reach the iconic Juatinga Lighthouse, climb to the sweeping views of Pico do Miranda and rest on secluded beaches such as Sumaca. You will also swim in crystal-clear waterfalls along the way.

And the best part? You only need a small backpack. Meals, accommodation, boat transfers and the transfer from Paraty are all taken care of, so you can focus on the trail, the views and the people you meet. You carry your own backpack with clothes, a snack and water each day.

How this differs from our 4-day trek
The 4-day trek covers the best-known and most visited places in the reserve. The 6-day trek visits those icons and then goes further, to remote, rarely visited places. The result is a more immersive experience in nature and in local life.

What makes this trek special

  • Reach the Juatinga Lighthouse, one of the most remote points on the Paraty coast
  • Climb Pico do Miranda for panoramic views
  • Visit Sumaca, Martin de Sá, Cajaíba and Ponta Negra beaches
  • Hike up to Pão de Açúcar Peak (465 m) at Saco do Mamanguá
  • Swim at Saco Bravo and Galhetas waterfalls
  • Stay in simple guesthouses or in the homes of Caiçara families
  • Enjoy all meals, prepared by local hosts
  • Hike with a licensed local guide
  • Take boat transfers within the reserve

This trek suits active travelers, nature lovers and anyone seeking an authentic, off-the-beaten-path adventure. You do not need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable walking several hours a day on forest trails with climbs and descents.
