Paraty: Melancia Waterfall Trail Guided Hike

Explore one of the most immersive hiking trails in the Paraty region on a guided trek through the Atlantic Forest to Melancia Waterfall.

Your day begins with a pickup from your accommodation in Paraty if you have booked the optional round-trip transfer. Otherwise, meet your guide at the trailhead in Taquari. After a safety briefing, set off through dense, humid rainforest, following a forest trail surrounded by towering trees, lush vegetation and the sounds of nature.

This is a long hike that takes you deep into one of the region’s well-preserved forest areas. Along the way, your bilingual guide will share insights into the local environment and help you look for wildlife. With luck, you may spot sloths, squirrel monkeys and tropical birds such as toucans and hummingbirds. Sightings are never guaranteed.

After approximately two to two and a half hours of hiking, reach Melancia Waterfall, where three cascades of up to 15 metres feed natural pools. Take a break, enjoy the surroundings and cool off with a swim before beginning the return hike along the same trail.

The hike involves several hours of walking in a humid forest environment, so a reasonable level of fitness is important, even though the elevation gain is moderate. Your guide will adjust the pace to the group.

If you wish, you can also arrange an optional stop at a local restaurant on the way back, where you can enjoy regional food and panoramic views over Paraty Bay.
