Discover one of the hidden gems of Serra da Bocaina National Park. Melancia Waterfall is a wild and beautiful destination for travelers who want adventure and a real connection with nature. Your licensed local guide leads you along a forest trail to a waterfall with three drops, each one feeding a crystal-clear natural pool surrounded by lush Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica). It is the perfect place to cool off with a swim after the hike.

The hike to Melancia Waterfall takes about 2.5 hours each way, so plan on around 5 hours of walking in total. The trail is rated moderate, which means you should be comfortable walking for several hours on forest paths with some climbs and descents. You do not need to be an athlete, but good basic fitness will help you enjoy the day.

The experience starts at 7:00 AM and you are back by 6:00 PM, which leaves plenty of time at the waterfall to swim, relax and enjoy your snack before the walk back. Optional round-trip transport from Paraty to the trailhead, about 30 minutes away, is available per vehicle for up to 4 people.

Food and drinks are not provided, so please bring your own lunch or snack and at least 2 liters of water, along with a swimsuit, a towel and sturdy shoes.

Please note

Difficulty: Moderate. The hike takes around 5 hours round trip, so good basic fitness is required.
Food is not provided. Bring your own lunch or snack and at least 2 liters of water.
Optional transport: Round-trip transport from Paraty to the park entrance is available for an extra fee per vehicle (up to 4 people). Groups of 5 to 7 need two vehicles.
Weather: Rain can make the trail muddy and slippery, and the waterfall may be unsafe when rivers are high. If the tour cannot run because of weather, we will reschedule it or refund you.
After Booking: we send you a suggested equipment list and a participation contract with a medical form to complete.
Minimum age: 8 years. Children must be used to physical exercise and in good physical condition.
