Day hike: Saco Bravo Waterfall & Boat Trip

Take a boat to Ponta Negra, then hike through Atlantic Forest in the Juatinga Reserve to Saco Bravo Waterfall. Swim in a natural pool right beside the open ocean. A licensed guide and the round-trip boat are included.

Imagine swimming in a natural pool fed by a waterfall, with the open sea right in front of you. This spot exists in the Juatinga Ecological Reserve near Paraty. Saco Bravo Waterfall is one of the most unusual sights on the Costa Verde: crystal-clear water drops into a rock pool at the edge of the ocean, creating a striking contrast between the preserved Atlantic Forest and the open sea.

Your day starts with a boat ride to Ponta Negra, where the hike begins. The trail to the waterfall takes about 2 hours each way through lush tropical forest, and the effort is rewarded with one of the best views on this coast. The route covers 8.4 km round trip and is rated moderate, but the climbs and the length of the day mean good fitness is required.

You will have time to swim, rest and enjoy the scenery before walking back and returning in the early evening, between 6:00 and 7:00 PM, depending on your pace. Lunch is not included, so please bring your own food and water.
