Saco do Mamanguá is the only tropical fjord in Brazil, a place full of biodiversity that is often compared to the famous Nordic fjords. This full-day experience from Paraty combines a scenic boat ride, a short and steep hike and time on a quiet beach.

Your day starts in Paraty, and from Paraty Mirim you take a boat across to the fjord. There you hike to Pão de Açúcar Peak (465 m). The trail is only 3 km round trip, but it is steep and takes about 2 hours in total, around 1 hour up and 1 hour down, depending on the group’s pace and fitness. At the top, the panoramic view over the fjord and the ocean is the reward for the climb.

After the descent, you relax at the charming Praia do Cruzeiro, surrounded by clear water. The boat then brings you back, and you return to Paraty by 5:00 PM.

The hike is rated moderate and suits active travelers and nature lovers. You do not need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable with a steep climb.

Please note

Difficulty: Moderate. The trail is short but steep, and the climb takes about 1 hour. Good basic fitness is required.
Food is not provided. Bring your own lunch or snack and enough water.
Boat trip: The crossing depends on weather and sea conditions. The guide may change the schedule or route for safety.
Weather: Rain can make the trail muddy and slippery, and the waterfall may be unsafe when rivers are high. If the tour cannot run because of weather, we will reschedule it or refund you.
After Booking: we send you a suggested equipment list and a participation contract with a medical form to complete.
Minimum age: 8 years. Children must be used to physical exercise and in good physical condition.
Swimming: Swim at your own risk and follow your guide’s instructions.
Not recommended for: people with serious mobility, heart or knee problems.
Respect the environment and local community. Please take all your trash with you.
