From Paraty: Pedra da Macela Sunrise or Sunset Hike

Experience a guided hike to Pedra da Macela at 1,840 metres, offering panoramic views of Ilha Grande Bay, with options for private sunrise or sunset tours led by a local expert.

Start early and head into the mountains for a hike to Pedra da Macela, one of the best viewpoints in the Paraty region.

The trail follows a paved but steep 2.2 km path up to the summit at 1,840 metres above sea level. The climb takes around an hour, with time to pause along the way. No previous hiking experience is required, although you should be comfortable walking uphill for a sustained period.

At the top, enjoy wide views over Ilha Grande Bay, the Serra do Mar and the surrounding mountain ranges. If conditions are right, you may even see clouds sitting below the summit. For the sunrise option, watch the landscape change as the first light reaches the coast and mountains.

After spending time at the viewpoint, return along the same trail. If you'd like to extend your outing after sunrise, you can add a visit to the Sete Degraus waterfalls for an additional fee, where you may have time for a swim in the natural pools.

Choose a sunrise or sunset departure for your private tour. Round-trip transfers from your accommodation in Paraty are available to book as an extra, making it easier to reach the trailhead without arranging your own transport.
